Maggie Kent was overlanding from England in 1974 and ran out of money when she got to Bali so flew to the nearest Australian city, Darwin, to find work. She arrived on 28 February, 1974 and has been there ever since, working primarily in the public service. At the time of Cyclone Tracy she was living in the suburb of Nightcliff and working for the Museum and Art Gallery. Her interview includes a description of her own experience in the cyclone and the damage done to the then museum building which is now called the Town Hall Ruins, as a monument to Cyclone Tracy.
