Michael Loos came to the Territory in 1972 where he worked in Darwin with the public library system. At the time of Cyclone Tracy he was one of the librarians who assisted in retrieving the material in the library which had been damaged during the cyclone. He was sent to Canberra after the cyclone to oversee the embryo of the Northern Australia Collection while it was there, waiting for a permanent 'home' in Darwin. Michael returned to Darwin where, at the time of the design of this web page, he was senior librarian in charge of the Northern Australia Collection (NAC) which is now the largest repository of material relating to Northern Australia in the world. Michael's interview describes what happened to the library during the cyclone and what happened to the material in the immediate aftermath. Most of the photographic material presented on this site are from the NAC collection.
